Pompeii Red

Legend has it that this shade of red is unique to the ruins of the ancient Roman city Pompeii, which was buried in ash by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in August, 79 AD. Pompeii haunts me: time literally stopped there nearly 2000 years ago. The experience of visiting the ruins is nothing short of religious, and I tell everyone that it is in the top five of places to see before one dies.

At any rate, this is a cross section of a wall at Pompeii. The red is that unique Pompeiian hue from a mural, the lower textures are different layers of the wall beneath.
